Semtech's dedicated Innovation Forum was a resounding success, drawing overwhelming attendance and engagement. The venue was packed, with many attendees standing around the presentation area to catch every insight from our speakers. Under the theme "Empowering China's Intelligent IoT Revolution," the forum delivered a comprehensive journey through LoRa technology's evolution. The full-day program featured visionary executive keynotes, in-depth technical sessions, live demonstrations, and strategic market insights, all reinforcing LoRa's pivotal role as the foundation of China's intelligent IoT transformation.
Mike Wong, Vice President of Sales, APAC Region at Semtech, kicked off the forum with a powerful keynote that framed LoRa not just as a connectivity protocol, but as a catalyst for large-scale digital transformation across China. His presentation set an energizing tone for the event, underscoring Semtech’s deep commitment to driving innovation at the core of China’s dynamic IoT ecosystem.
As a founding member of the LoRa Alliance®, Wong highlighted the launch of LR2021 as more than just the next evolution of LoRa technology, positioning it as a strategic milestone for the entire ecosystem. The advancement is designed to meet the growing complexity and diversity of IoT applications, paving the way for smarter, more scalable deployments across industries.
Olivier Beaujard, Senior Director of the LoRa Ecosystem at Semtech and Chair of the LoRa Alliance Board, emphasized that "a strong ecosystem is the key to the widespread application of new technologies." He detailed how the LoRa ecosystem has grown over the past decade to include more than 400 core alliance members globally, covering the entire industry chain from chips, modules, gateways, and terminal devices to cloud services, forming a global ecosystem network driven by technical standards and enterprise collaboration. Beaujard highlighted that as of May 2025, more than 450 million terminal nodes equipped with LoRa chips have been deployed globally, including public networks, private networks, and community networks that can meet the needs of different network levels, consolidating LoRa technology's leadership position in the LPWAN field.
Shahar Feldman, Senior Director of Product Marketing for LoRa at Semtech, also took the stage to deliver one of the most anticipated presentations of the event, an exclusive deep dive into LoRa Plus™ Gen4 technology. His masterclass introduced attendees to a new era in IoT connectivity: multi-band chips supporting Sub-GHz, 2.4GHz, and S-Band satellite frequencies purpose-built for the future of AI and edge intelligence.
“One of the most important driving factors for IoT today is that machine learning and AI are changing how we monitor and detect devices,” Shahar remarked. He emphasized the significance of integrating AI into edge devices, especially those constrained by battery life.
Blaise Paratte, Director of Technical Product Management at Semtech, conducted compelling live stage demonstrations along with Mike Wong, Olivier Beaujard, Shahar Feldman that brought LR2021's capabilities directly to conference attendees, showcasing real-world applications in an interactive format.
Paratte's LR2021 ranging demonstration captivated audiences by showing how precise distance measurement can solve everyday challenges. This live demo illustrated how the LR2021's advanced ranging capabilities enable accurate object location tracking, demonstrating practical applications for asset management, indoor positioning and proximity detection. The system showcased millimeter-level precision in real-time, highlighting the potential for warehouse management, equipment tracking and smart building applications.
LoRa digital audio transmission demonstration, based on either sub-GHz link or 2.4GHz technology, revealed the LR2021's breakthrough capability to handle high-quality voice communication over long distances with minimal power consumption. This live presentation showcased how LoRa technology can revolutionize traditional walkie-talkie systems, enabling digital audio transmission across extended ranges while maintaining the low-power advantages that make LoRa ideal for battery-operated devices. The demonstration highlighted applications for emergency services, large campus communications and smart city infrastructure where reliable, long-range voice communication is essential.
