IOTE Shenzhen 2025: Semtech Showcases the Future of LoRa® Innovation

IOTE Shenzhen 2025 was a major success, drawing 70,000 participants to this year's show. Semtech's presence became a focal point for next-generation LoRa® technology, featuring live demonstrations, executive presentations and strategic partnership announcements. The three-day event reinforced the leading position of LoRa technology in intelligent Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity throughout China and internationally.

Semtech Booth: Where Innovation Came to Life

Across our booth activities and presentations at the LoRa Innovation Forum, Semtech technology commanded attention from industry professionals with cutting-edge demonstrations that brought the future of IoT connectivity into sharp focus. Interactive demos highlighted features leveraged in next-gen IoT solutions for smart cities, industrial monitoring and energy-efficient buildings, with the revolutionary LR2021 transceiver taking center stage for its dual-band support, higher data rates and ultra-low power consumption. 

Semtech booth Demonstrations 

  1. High-Speed Image Transfer with FLRC: Fast Long-Range Communication (FLRC) demonstrations stole the show, showcasing ultra-fast, long-range data transfer capabilities using the breakthrough LR2021 and SX1280 transceivers. Attendees watched HD images stream seamlessly across long distances: a game-changer for surveillance, smart monitoring and critical infrastructure applications.
  2. Off-Grid Ranging and Precise Positioning: Leveraging the power of LR2021, LR1110, LR1120 and SX1280, Semtech's ranging demonstration delivered precise point-to-point distance measurement using round trip time of flight (RTToF). This breakthrough technology opens new possibilities for indoor location tracking, asset monitoring and proximity sensing without requiring existing infrastructure.
  3. Compact One-Channel Hub with LR1121 (Lightweight LoRaWAN® gateway): The sleek, cost-effective LR1121 solution captured significant attention from Small and Medium Business (SMB) representatives and smart home integrators. The demonstration highlighted dual SF connectivity that dramatically simplifies LoRaWAN adoption for smaller deployments, making enterprise-grade IoT accessible to previously underserved markets.
  4. Multi-connectivity utilizing LR2021 for Smart Infrastructure: Showcased the future of versatile networking architectures by seamlessly integrating LoRaWAN with Wi-SUN backhaul, this solution connects ultra-low-power devices while intelligently filling coverage gaps in low-density mesh networks.
  5. BLE demonstration with LR2021: The demo showcased the LR2021’s ability to handle BLE packets seamlessly. The end node transmitted packets every second to a BLE mobile app, where the data was displayed in real time. When the app sent a command back to the Evaluation Kit, it toggled the end node’s LED ON/OFF—demonstrating reliable bidirectional BLE communication
  6. Meshtastic Solution: An open-source, off-grid communication platform powered by LoRa-based mesh networking, where multiple devices can seamlessly form a self-sustaining mesh network to transmit text messages and GPS data all without relying on cellular, Wi-Fi, or internet connectivity. Attendees were able to find variety of Meshtastic devices partners such as Seeed Studio, RAK, E-Byte, Heltec, M5Stack, and Lilygo, showcasing different HMI options, optimized for use in remote areas, outdoor adventures or emergency response scenarios.
  7. Facility Management System (FMS) networking solution: A lightweight LoRa-powered solution designed for cost-effective deployment across large campuses and factories with support up to 2,500+ nodes. During the live demonstration, attendees witnessed real-time alert transmission from nodes to edge gateways with instant visualization on the user interface. This scalable solution addresses the growing demand for affordable, easy-to-deploy networking infrastructure in industrial IoT environments.

Semtech's dedicated Innovation Forum was a resounding success, drawing overwhelming attendance and engagement. The venue was packed, with many attendees standing around the presentation area to catch every insight from our speakers. Under the theme "Empowering China's Intelligent IoT Revolution," the forum delivered a comprehensive journey through LoRa technology's evolution. The full-day program featured visionary executive keynotes, in-depth technical sessions, live demonstrations, and strategic market insights, all reinforcing LoRa's pivotal role as the foundation of China's intelligent IoT transformation.

Mike Wong, Vice President of Sales, APAC Region at Semtech, kicked off the forum with a powerful keynote that framed LoRa not just as a connectivity protocol, but as a catalyst for large-scale digital transformation across China. His presentation set an energizing tone for the event, underscoring Semtech’s deep commitment to driving innovation at the core of China’s dynamic IoT ecosystem. 

As a founding member of the LoRa Alliance®, Wong highlighted the launch of LR2021 as more than just the next evolution of LoRa technology, positioning it as a strategic milestone for the entire ecosystem. The advancement is designed to meet the growing complexity and diversity of IoT applications, paving the way for smarter, more scalable deployments across industries. 

Building Massive IoT with LoRaWAN®

Olivier Beaujard, Senior Director of the LoRa Ecosystem at Semtech and Chair of the LoRa Alliance Board, emphasized that "a strong ecosystem is the key to the widespread application of new technologies." He detailed how the LoRa ecosystem has grown over the past decade to include more than 400 core alliance members globally, covering the entire industry chain from chips, modules, gateways, and terminal devices to cloud services, forming a global ecosystem network driven by technical standards and enterprise collaboration. Beaujard highlighted that as of May 2025, more than 450 million terminal nodes equipped with LoRa chips have been deployed globally, including public networks, private networks, and community networks that can meet the needs of different network levels, consolidating LoRa technology's leadership position in the LPWAN field.

The LoRa Plus™ Revolution: "Unleashing AI-Powered IOT at Scale"

Shahar Feldman, Senior Director of Product Marketing for LoRa at Semtech, also took the stage to deliver one of the most anticipated presentations of the event, an exclusive deep dive into LoRa Plus™ Gen4 technology. His masterclass introduced attendees to a new era in IoT connectivity: multi-band chips supporting Sub-GHz, 2.4GHz, and S-Band satellite frequencies purpose-built for the future of AI and edge intelligence. 

One of the most important driving factors for IoT today is that machine learning and AI are changing how we monitor and detect devices,” Shahar remarked. He emphasized the significance of integrating AI into edge devices, especially those constrained by battery life.

LoRa Ranging Demo with LR2021: "Find a Lost Object" 

Paratte's LR2021 ranging demonstration captivated audiences by showing how precise distance measurement can solve everyday challenges. This live demo illustrated how the LR2021's advanced ranging capabilities enable accurate object location tracking, demonstrating practical applications for asset management, indoor positioning and proximity detection. The system showcased millimeter-level precision in real-time, highlighting the potential for warehouse management, equipment tracking and smart building applications. 

LoRa Digital Audio Transmission: Next-Generation Walkie-Talkie

LoRa digital audio transmission demonstration, based on either sub-GHz link or 2.4GHz technology, revealed the LR2021's breakthrough capability to handle high-quality voice communication over long distances with minimal power consumption. This live presentation showcased how LoRa technology can revolutionize traditional walkie-talkie systems, enabling digital audio transmission across extended ranges while maintaining the low-power advantages that make LoRa ideal for battery-operated devices. The demonstration highlighted applications for emergency services, large campus communications and smart city infrastructure where reliable, long-range voice communication is essential.

The forum showcased compelling case studies from Semtech's thriving ecosystem partners, demonstrating LoRa's versatility across diverse sectors:

  • Guodian Hi-Tech presented LoRa+satellite IoT technology applications in forest fire monitoring, remote herding, and oil pipeline leak detection, showcasing precision capabilities enabled by satellite convergence

  • Browan highlighted asset tracking solutions requiring minimal infrastructure investment
